ACA Questions and Answers

The questions people bring me about eligibility, cost and using an ACA plan, answered in plain language.

Eligibility and Timing

Getting In and Getting the Timing Right

Most of what goes wrong with ACA coverage is a timing problem, not a plan problem. These are the questions I hear before anyone looks at a single price.

Yes, nothing stops you from buying a Marketplace plan. What changes is the financial help. If the coverage your employer offers meets the standards the law sets for cost and value, you can still enroll on your own, but you would likely pay the full premium yourself. That is worth pricing out either way, because employer coverage for the whole family sometimes costs more than people assume. Bring me what your employer handed you and I will price the two of them against each other.

What It Costs

Premiums, Credits and What You Owe

A premium is only the part you see every month. These questions cover the rest of the bill.

Anything involving amounts depends on your own household details, and nothing is final until the Marketplace processes your information.
